Annual Child & Senior Eye Exams Are Covered By AHCIP
The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) covers some optometry services, within the province, for eligible Alberta residents. (See changes to AHCIP eye care service coverage effective February 1, 2025). Annual eye exams for children 18 years old and younger, and seniors 65 years and older are covered by Alberta Health. For adults between the ages of 19 and 64, routine comprehensive eye exams are not covered by AHCIP. Optometry Services
- Eligible for one oculo-visual assessment (complete routine child eye exam) and one diagnostic procedure per benefit year (July 1 to June 30)
- All Albertans are covered for medically necessary eye care for specific medical conditions treated by optometrists. This includes visits to an optometrist that are medically necessary due to trauma, specific medical conditions or an episode of illness.
Seniors 65+
Optometry Services
