Prescription Lens Types: See The World Differently
Your eyeglass prescription heavily influences the lens design, type and index that you require to see your best. Understanding the various parameters that comprise an eyeglass prescription can help you to better appreciate the need for, and difference between, particular lens features and designs. As a general rule, the higher the prescription or greater the imbalance between eyes that an individual has, the greater the need for more advanced, personalized lenses. Many of these advanced design lenses are only available through dedicated eye care providers, like eye-deology Vision Care.

Prescription Eyeglass Lens Designs
Stock Prescription Lenses: Only For Low Prescriptions
Stock Lenses are mass produced and they can NOT be customized. Accordingly, they are the least expensive. The clothing equivalent of a "one size fits all" shirt, stock lenses are only acceptable for lower prescriptions - when tolerance to inaccuracies, decentration and peripheral distortion is higher. Stock lenses are almost always used by online retailers. They also represent the vast majority of lenses sold by big box stores. Surfaced and Freeform Surfaced lenses offer significantly greater optical performance.

Surfaced Lenses: Customized Clarity, Crispness, & Contrast
Surfaced Lenses are manufactured specifically for an individual’s prescription and frame selection. These lenses offer increased acuity, better contrast, and a greater field of view free of distortion than stock lenses. Because surfaced lenses offer enhanced features and are customized to the individual, they do come at a higher cost. However, the benefits of surfaced lenses significantly outweigh the additional cost.

Freeform Surfaced Lenses: Personally Tailored Vision
Digital Freeform Surfaced Lenses are the best lenses available, offering the greatest personalization, best clarity, and largest field of view free of distortion. Freeform lenses are the equivalent to tailored suit or dress - they are fully customized to an individual's prescription, frame, eye use, and physical measurements. Freeform lenses are the best choice for progressive lens wearers, especially first-time wearers. Digital Freeform Progressive lenses are only produced by premiere lens manufacturers like Hoya, Zeiss, etc. and are typically only offered at dedicate eyecare providers. They are NOT AVAILABLE ONLINE and are typically NOT AVAILABLE FROM BIG BOX retailers.

Anti-Fatigue Lenses: Vision For The Digital Age
Anti-Fatigue prescription lenses are a new hybrid lens design created specifically with smartphone users and pre-presbyopic individuals in mind. They are a single vision lens with with a small ADD at the bottom of the lens to make reading easier, especially on smartphones. Anti-fatigue lenses are uniquely matched to the digital age where screens are seemingly everywhere and are often a precursor to multifocal progressive lenses. Like a conventional progressive lens, the transition between viewing areas is invisible.
